At Shanti Living Wellness, we use Abhyanga application to bring balance and restore your wellbeing in accordance with your dosha (constitution). When out of balance, specific herbs infused with oil can help to restore balance.
In Sanskrit Abhyanga means oil massage. In Ayurveda, Abhyanga is used to nourish the tissues while purify the doshas with oil and herbs.
This type of massage uses copious amounts of warm oil on the body. The application is similar to Swedish massage technique; long gliding strokes are used to both apply the oil, as well as decrease tension. The skin readily absorbs the oil and herbs for a feeling of calm and relaxation.
In the ancient Indian vedic text it states,
“The body of one who uses oil massage regularly does not become affected much even if subjected to injury or strenuous work. By using oil massage daily, a person is endowed with a pleasant touch, trimmed body parts, and becomes strong, charming and least affected by old age.”
There are many benefits to Abhyanga, including unlocking the body’s own healing mechanisms, increase in circulation, release of toxins from tissue, youthful looking skin, decrease in stress, enhances sleep, promotes healthy immunity, can help strengthen bone and connective tissue. Overall promotes longevity & well-being.
Please note that while the application of Abhyanga is done in a western style Swedish application, this is a holistic therapy session. It is recommended to keep the oil on for at least 2 hours after treatment allowing the oil to further penetrate into the skin. After treatment it is recommended the rest of your day be kept as stress free as possible.
